Sega, jedna od najstarijih igračkih kompanija na svetu, pre predstavljanja svoje prve konzole već je godinama unazad objavljivala igre za automate, a taj posao nije napustila ni posle lansiranja Sega Master Systema, Sega Mega Drive-a i kasnijih projekata vezanih za kućno igranje. Dugo vremena Sega je bila najčuvenija po svom System 16/System 18 automatu i njihovim modifikacijama sa kojih potiču mnoga legendarna ostvarenja poput Outruna, Hang-Ona, Space Harriera, Golden Axe, Shinobija, Shadow Dancera... ali je to tek bila najava za jedno od najvećih iznenađenja koja su se desila u industriji igračkih automata. 1991. Sega prikazuje Model 1 automat koji je predstavljao njen prvi upliv u 3D vode, a Virtua Racing i Virtua Fighter su već tada skrenuli pažnju publike na sebe, iako su za njihovu izradu upotrebljivani "goli" poligoni, bez tekstura. A onda, 1993. dešava se Model 2. U trenutku pojavljivanja, bila je to daleko, daleko najjača igračka platforma na svetu. Već prva generacija ovog sistema koristila je 32-bitni Intelov RISC procesor na 25mhz (nikako ga ne treba upoređivati sa tadašnjim PC procesorima od kojih je bio daleko napredniji) a grafička kartica ugrađena u sistem imala je neverovatne tehničke karakteristike i bila je u stanju da renderuje do 300 hiljada poligona u sekundi. Takođe, prisutne su bile i neke osnovne funkcije modernih 3D akceleratora, a povrh svega, video rezolucija je bila impresivnih 496x384, sve u punoj 16-bitnoj paleti boja.

Radi poređenja, tada su bili aktuelni SNES i SMD2 za koje je 3D misaona imenica, a standardni PC računar tog vremena je bila 386-tica sa primitivnim VGA adapterima koji su bili u stanju da prikazuju do 256 boja na ekranu sa abnormalno "kockastom" grafikom (Doom anyone?). Tek je pojavom Pentium II procesora i Voodoo akceleratora čitavih 5 godina kasnije PC bio u stanju da uradi to isto, a konzole još kasnije, predstavljenjem Dreamcasta 1999. Prva igra ikada objavljena za sistem bila je legendarna Daytona USA, o čijoj popularnosti dovoljno govori činjenica da u pitanju naslov koji je zabeležio najveći prihod na automatima u istoriji, a prema podacima iz Velike Britanije, Daytona USA je beležila gotovo 100% veću zaradu nego druga igra na večnoj listi, Time Crisis 2. Zahvaljujući neverovatnoj grafici, sjajnoj igrivosti i mogućnosti povezivanja do čak 8 automata, Sega je beležila toliko veliki profit da nijedna kompanija ni pre ni posle nije uspela da joj se približi, što je uzrokovalo i nastanak fraze kojom se opravdava slabija prođa neke igre - »nije to Daytona«. Kasnije, osnovni hardver je unapređen kroz nekoliko revizija (2B, 2C su uveli mogućnost povezivanja još većeg broja igrača, kvalitetniji zvuk i 24-bitnu paletu boja između ostalog), što je dovelo do primetnog poboljšanja kvaliteta zvuka i grafike. Od igara, mnoge su poznate i na ovim prostorima: Dead Or Alive, Manx TT, Sega Rally Championship, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop 2, Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Touring Car Championship, Last Bronx, The House Of The Dead... Poslednje ostvarenje za platformu objavljeno je 1998. godine, nakon čega se Sega preorijentisala na Model 3 sistem. Mnogi od Model 2 naslova portovani su na PC, Saturn, Playstation, Dreamcast i Playstation 2, ali je retko koji od njih izgledao dobro kao na originalnom automatu. Zbog svega toga, Model 2 predstavlja stranicu u istoriji igara ispisanu zlatnim slovima.

- Fixed TGP emulation bugs and added missing opcodes. Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Cop 2 are now
playable. There is still a bug with VF2 hair/body collisions, probably another TGP bug, but it's
quite hard to find...
- Fixed I960 bug that caused daytona invisible walls/holes in the road.
- Fixed timer bug that caused missing hair in Fighting vipers, tails in sonic and slow cars in
Sega Rally (although they still don't work properly).
- Added support for "return to neutral". Enable it with HoldGears=1 option in emulator.ini. This
setting will cause the emu to return to neutral when no gear button is pressed.
- Redone rasterizer color decoding and texture mapping. Now it works the same way the real hardware
does, performing all the same table lookups and calculations, so color should be accurate now. The
color decoding is now done at pixel shader level so you'll need a PS 2.0 capable video card in order
to run the emulator now.
- Fixed white borders in some transparent textures.
- Redone texture caching code. Improved dirty texture detection. Fixes wrong textures in some
games when a new texture overlaps partially with an existing one.
- Changed ManxTT sound roms to the Twin ones. The previous romset was using the Deluxe ones that
have 2 sound boards. Fixes the "japanese speech when braking" bug :).Set the machine to Twin.
- Added 2 mice support for shooting games. Enable it with RawInput=1 in emulator.ini. Read some
other options there to tell the emu how to map a mouse to a player. When using RawInput the mouse
will be locked to the emulator window. In order to switch to another window, either press Alt to
bring the menu and unlock the mouse or use Alt-Tab to switch to another application.
- Fixed Alt key not activating the window menu.
- Fixed MB86235 bug when handling denormalized numbers that caused top skater and overrev lock the
emu sometimes.
- Fixed corrupt textures sometimes when loading a savestate
- Fixed frameskipping bug that caused some data not being updated in the TGP memory when
frameskipping (daytona windows not updating windows after entering/leaving the tunnel)
- Added an option to hide the crosshair in shooting games (DrawCross=0 in emulator.ini)
- Fixed Daytona to the maxx rom loading that caused wrong and missing graphics.
- Improved FM emulation support to the SCSP for some HOTD tunes requiring it.
- Fixed various bugs in the new MultiPCM sound emulation, causing some wrong loops and sounds.
- Fixed meshed transparencies size. Now they will scale to the selected resolution.
- Fixed specular highlights calculation.
- Added Daytona USA '93 edition and Daytona USA: GTX 2004.
- Added Rail Chase 2
- Added Virtua Cop 2
- Added Virtua Fighter 2, Rev A, Rev B and 2.1
- Added Sega Water Ski. The current sound rom dump seems to be bad so the game will run without
sound. This game will start in Japan region mode. To change the region, enter Test menu (F2) and
press the sequence up,up,down,down,service (f1),test (f2)
- Added Indianapolis 500 Rev A
- Changed romsets to match MAME as much as possible.

Iako i MAME imaju rudimentalnu podršku za Model 2 igre, one mnogo bolje funkcionišu u ovom emulatoru koji potpisuje ElSemi, autor Nebule. Program podržava veći deo naslova rađenih za sistem uz odličnu emulaciju zvuka i grafike. Za maksimalnu udobnost preporuka je DualCore procesor (za koje postoji podrška), dok grafička kartica zbog oslanjanja na softverski rendering ne igra nikakvu ulogu.
